Metropolitan Railway Locomotives Untitled Untitled
Outline drawing of Gooch "Metropolitan" Class 2-4-0T "Czar." The six representatives of this class built by Kitson's were all named after despotic rulers, who were doubtless much admired by the Great Western Directors
Gooch "Leo" Class 2-4-0T "Stromboli," rebuilt at Swindon as a saddle tank, and used on the Hammersmith Extension of the Metropolitan Railway
"Stromboli" seen from the front. The slender boiler is very apparent in this view. The two diamonds on the buffer beam indicate a branch-line engine. Was the Metropolitan's Hammersmith Extension so designated?
