Benjamin Carr, Adagio
Organ music written in the United States before 1850 is in relatively short supply. This Adagio composed by Benjamin Carr (1768-1831) in 1805, is a rare and little-known survival. Benjamin Carr, the son of a London music publisher, was apprenticed to Dr. Samuel Arnold, Organist of the Chapel Royal and Westminster Abbey. He moved to Philadelphia in 1793, where he was organist of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church.
