Jeremiah Clarke, The Emperor of Germany's March
Jeremiah Clarke (1670-1707) wrote this march in honor of Holy Roman Emperor, Kaiser Leopold I of Hapsburg (1640-1705), Britain's ally in the War of the Spanish Succession. It is found in harpsichord reduction in A Collection of Choice Pieces for Harpsichord, published in 1711, but was doubtless originally intended for an orchestral ensemble including brass and percussion. Like many similar pieces of ceremonial music, it translates rather well onto the organ.
