List to the echo of music and mirth
F. W. Nichols was a businessman in charge of copper-mining and lumber interests in Houghton, the principal copper-mining center of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. His wife, Frances Marion Nichols, was for many years organist of Trinity Episcopal Church in Houghton, Michigan, where she presided over a 2-manual Pilcher organ in the original wooden church and later a 1913 3-manual Austin (which still survives) in the Gothic brick church of 1910. She was also President of the Michigan Federation of Organists and the Michigan Federation of Music Clubs. The Nichols's had a 2-manual Hook & Hastings organ in their residence in Houghton. Mrs. Nichols is believed to have written organ music as well as hymns and choral music, but I have been unable to discover any of it.
