The morning purples all the sky
The author of the text, the Rev. Alexander Ramsay Thompson, D.D., was a prominent minister in the American Dutch Reformed Church. Little, however, is known of the composer of the tune, Julia T. Draper, except that she seems to have been associated with the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, the "Little Church around the Corner," in New York, to the Rector of which, Dr. Houghton, this Easter carol is dedicated. In 1894 she married Wall Street investor Isaac Chauncey McKeever (1871-1929), though she seems to have continued to use her maiden name professionally.
