Sleep, my little Jesus
The theology of this lullaby by William Channing Gannett is particularly interesting. Among other things, it is the only text that I have come across that describes the Blessed Virgin Mary as the shepherd of Jesus. The usual tune is one by Adam Geibel, which although perfectly dreadful has been much beloved, and is the subject of numerous recordings, including recordings by Ella Fitzgerald and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I have arranged it here to a tune by Fanny Havergal which, though still contemporary with the text, is in my opinion much superior.
