The only Son from heaven (Elisabeth Cruciger)
Elisabeth von Meseritz Cruciger (1500-1535) was a most remarkable woman who may be considered the first woman hymn-writer of the Reformation. A noblewoman from Poland who was forced to flee to Wittenberg because of her Protestant views, at Wittenberg she met and married Caspar Cruciger, a student who was the son of a businessman in Leipzig. Both she and her busband were friends of Martin Luther and his wife Katherine, and took part in Luther's "table talks." Phillip Melanchthon considered her to be a highly intelligent woman.
