Carol, sweetly carol
There are in fact two carols that begin, "Carol, sweetly carol," one by an anonymous writer, and one by the blind American hymn-writer, Fanny Crosby. Fanny Crosby's text is here set to a tune by Charles Henry Whittier (1850-1929), assistant organist of trinity Church, Copley Square in Boston, and later organist of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Boston and was also a Professor at the New England Conservatory of Music. He left numerous pieces of choral and organ music.
