I found this in a nineteenth-century American hymnal paired with a mid-nineteenth-century American text. As it is unclear what text it was originally written for, I have paired it with an eighteenth-century text by Wesley that might have been familiar to Russell.


Before rebuilding in the nineteenth century Great Queen Street Methodist Chapel was a dark, squalid building which had to be reached through an entrance through the houses that surrounded it. Russell was Organist here 1793-98, before moving to a more important post at St. Ann's, Limehouse
