Salve Festa Dies
I have long thought that Ralph Vaughan Williams was having a bad hair day when he wrote his well-known setting of "Salve Festa Dies" for the English Hymnal of 1906. Sir Charles V. Stanford wrote this tune "Ockley" in 1904. I also like the translation by the Rev. Arthur J. Mason, which seems to capture St. Venantius Fortunatus's characteristic charm and joie de vivre.
