We meditate the day
The text is by Nathaniel Langdon Frothingham (1793-1870), who was educated at Harvard and became the Pastor of First Church (Unitarian) in Boston. He wrote this hymn in 1835 on the occasion of the installation of the Rev. William P. Lunt as co-pastor with the Rev. Peter Whitney at Quincy, Massachusetts. The tune is by Bristol organist Cornelius Bryan (1793-1870), who was organist of St. Mary Redcliffe in Bristol. He wrote an opera "Lundy," and died in an accident when he fell through a trap-door on stage during a rehearsal of his opera at the Theatre Royal in Bristol.
