Surrexit Christus hodie (Scheidt)
Samuel Scheidt (1587-1654) wrote an 8-part tune (SATB.SATB) to be used with the texts "Puer natus in Bethlehem" and "Surrexit Christus hodie." Sir David Willcocks wrote a 4-part setting of an English translation of the former in Carols for Choirs, reducing the number of alleluias. Here is a different 4-part setting of the 14th.-century Bohemian text "Surrexit Christus hodie" to Scheidt's tune with all the alleluias left in out of deference to the Easter season!

A translation, "Jesus Christ is risen today," appeared anonymously in Lyra Davidica (London, 1708). A much altered version of both the text and the tune is found in modern hymnals, but the original version is much nearer to the Latin (and to the Gospels).
