Angel, roll the rock away
The text was written by Thomas Scott (1705-1776), a Dissenting minister in Norfolk. The tune was composed by Chauncey Marvin Cady (1824-1889), who in partnership with Ebenezer Towney Root ran a music store and music publishing firm in Chicago, Illinois, between 1858 and 1871. Root & Cady was at the time the largest music publishing firm in North America. C. M. Cady moved to Atlanta, Georgia, after the Great Chicago Fire, where he operated a piano dealership.
