Come ye rich, survey the stable
A carol found on a broadside printed in Birmingham by T. Bloomer in 1822. This was listed as a popular carol for printing on London broadsides in William Hone's List of "Christmas Carols now annually Printed." Since the original tune is lost, I have set it to the tune "Slingsby," which was composed by the Rev. Edmund Sardinson Carter, M.A. (1845-1923). Carter's father was Rector of Slingsby, which is where the name of the tune came from. The Rev. E. S. Carter was Vicar of St. Martin's Micklegate and St. Michael's Belfry in York, and played cricket for the Yorkshire County team.
