London, Chatham & Dover Railway (Maidstone & Faversham Junction Railway) Act 1881 authorized the LC&DR to build a 10-mile line between Lenham on the Ashford line to Faversham on the Dover line. This would have been very useful in allowing through running from Sevenoaks and Maidstone to Dover, Margate and Ramsgate, and also have given an alternative route from London to Dover, Margate and Ramsgate via St.Mary Cray and Maidstone. The date of completion of the line was extended to 27 June 1892 by the London, Dover & Chatham Act of 1888, but the line was abandoned by an Act of 24 June 1889. An attempt was made to revive the scheme in 1899 under the Light Railways Act of 1896 under the auspices of Colonel Stephens, and a Light Railway Order was obtained in 1901, with further extensions of time in 1903 and 1905, after which the scheme was again abandoned.
