The Great Central, Hull & Barnsley and Midland Joint Railway Committee's line ran from Ravenfield, where it connected at Laughton West junction to the Great Central and Midland Railway's joint line, and Braithwell junction, where it connected to the Hull and Barnsley and Great Central Railway's joint line, a distance of 4 miles and 27 chains. The line was intended to be a joint line of the Hull & Barnsley and Midland Railways, but when the North Eastern Railway was offered running powers, the Great Central took alarm and rose in opposition to the project. Eventually in 1909 it was agreed that the Great Central, Hull & Barnsley and Midland Railways would have an equal stake in the line, and it was able to proceed. It opened on 1 May 1916.
