Charles Zeuner, Rail Road Waltz
The Boston composer and organist Charles Zeuner published this piece for piano in 1835. It is interesting in that it dates from the infancy of the railroads. Unlike many pieces in a more pianistic style, it lends itself to the organ as a secular piece, and indeed was probably played on many a melodion or parlor organ. Several railroads were built in Massachusetts during the first half of the 1830s, including the Boston & Lowell Railroad (1830), the Boston & Providence, Worcester & Norwich and Boston & Worcester Railroads (1833), the Western and Andover & Wilmington Railroads (1833) and the Taunton Branch Railroad 1835)
