Jeremiah Clarke's "The Duke of Marlborough's March" honors John Churchill, First Duke of Marlborough (1650-1722) for his victories in the War of the Spanish Succession. A harpsichord reduction was published in 1711, but the original was doubtless for an orchestral ensemble including trumpets and percussion. Like the well-known "Prince of Denmark's March," written in honor of the Consort of Queen Anne, this translates very well onto the organ as a trumpet voluntary.
