Verset (?)
This is an example of the great wealth of early Latin-American choral, orchestral and organ music that lies buried in numerous archives and is only just coming to light. This particular piece is found in the Notebook of Sister Maria Clara del Santisimo Sacramento, a nun from the Conceptionist Convent of Regina Coeli, who lived in around 1800. The original is in the historical archives of the Archbishopric of Oaxaca, Mexico. The notebook consists primarily of Versets for Mattins, but its pianistic character leaves open the question of whether this particular keyboard piece was primarily intended for organ.
