Charles Henry Whittier, Marche Militaire
Charles Henry Whittier was born in Greenwich, New York, in 1850 and died in Winthrop, Massachusetts in 1929. At the time he published this composition in 1882 he was Assistant Organist of Trinity Episcopal Church, Copley Square, Boston, where there was a 3 manual 43 stop organ by Hilborne Roosevelt, Op. 29 of 1876. He was later organist of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Boston, and was also a Professor at the New England Conservatory of Music. His other organ compositions include In Memoriam, Meditation Religioso and Voix du Ciel. He also wrote numerous choral works.
