Sometimes the architecture of a building and its organ can have an almost magical effect, and this is very much true of the North Shore Congregation Israel, Glencoe, Illinois, a Reform Synagogue not far from Chicago. The architect was Alfred S. Altschuler, Jr., of the Chicago firm of Friedman, Altschuler & Sincere, and the building was constructed between 1962 and 1964. The architects collaborated over the design of the organ case with the organ builders, Casavant Frères of Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada. I was privileged to be able to hear this lovely organ at the 2012 Organ Historical Society Convention. The instrument, Casavant Op. 2768 of 1963, has an electro-pneumatic pitman action with the following stops:
