"O" Antiphons (Hayes)
J. M. Neale's translation of the "O" antiphons is much nearer to the original than the popular hymn "O come, O come, Emmanuel." Furthermore, the tune commonly used for that text was not associated with the "O" antiphons before the nineteenth century. "O Wisdom, who o'er earth below," set to a fine eighteenth-century tune by Dr. William Hayes, Heather Professor of Music in the University of Oxford, therefore offers an interesting alternative to the commonly sung version.
