Apple Tree Wassail (Bratton, Somerset)
According to Mr. William Crockford of Bratton in the Parish of Minehead Without, Somerset, from whom Cecil Sharp collected the "Apple Tree Wassail" on 12 September 1906, wassailing took place in Bratton every January 17th. This was the date of Epiphany according to the old Julian calendar. This carol, the tune of which seems to be related to "The Miller of Dee" was sung while dancing around the apple trees.
