Amanda Kennedy Moore, a Boston piano teacher, who was born in 1867 and was still alive in 1938, wrote a popular song, "Star of the sea," when she was only sixteen. In 1890 she set this tune to the English translation by New York poet George Cooper, of a German Christmas carol by Alfred Hans Zoller. This carol was once very popular, and in 1941 a recording of it was made by Judy Garland.
