Russell, Mass in C, Agnus Dei Russell Horizontal
In the Agnus Dei, Novello's version of Russell uses a curiously truncated text. In place of the usual

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona nobis pacem.

Russell has just

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis; dona nobis pacem.

There is no indication that repeats were intended in the original. This seems to have been a mistake, as the other settings in Novello's two-volume Convent Music make use of the normal text. II have accordingly revised Novello's version to fit with the usual text.

Rowlandson print of a Mass at the Roman Catholic Chapel in Lincoln's Inn Fields, otherwise known as the Sardinian Chapel, in 1808. Vincent Novello was organist here and Russell's Mass in C would almost certainly have been in use. Image courtesy of WikiGallery.org
