Wonderful Night
The text of this carol is first found in the Sunday School Hymnal, compiled by a Presbyter of the Diocese of Michigan (New York, 1866). The "Presbyter of the Diocese of Michigan," was the Rt. Rev. William Edmond Armitage, DD (1830-1873), who was Rector of St. John's Episcopal Church in Detroit and later Bishop of Wisconsin. The text was written by the German Dr. Johann Friederick Meyer, and was translated by the Rev. Milo Mahan, DD (1819-1870), a Professor at the General Theological Seminary. The tune was written by the Right Rev. John Freeman Young, STD (1820-1885), Bishop of Florida. It is to be found in Charles Lewis Hutchins's Carols Old and Carols New (1916).
