Good Christians, rise, this is the morn
The text of this carol is first found in the Sunday School Hymnal, compiled by a Presbyter of the Diocese of Michigan (New York, 1866). The "Presbyter of the Diocese of Michigan," was the Rt. Rev. William Edmond Armitage, DD (1830-1873), who was Rector of St. John's Episcopal Church in Detroit and later Bishop of Wisconsin. The composer of the tune, Nathan Boughton Warren (1815-1898) inherited a considerable fortune, which enabled him to pursue his many interests in music, for which he was awarded an honorary Mus. Doc. degree by Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut. He was also an active member of the Episcopal Church, and in particular of St. Paul's Church in Troy, New York. This carol is to be found in Charles Lewis Hutchins's Carols Old and Carols New (1916).
