It came upon the midnight clear (Gilchrist)
A well-known text by New England Unitarian minister Edmund Hamilton Sears, set here to a tune by William Wallace Gilchrist, who was baritone soloist at Holy Trinity Church on Rittenhouse Square and St. Mark’s Church in Philadelphia, and organist of St. Clement’s in Philadelphia, Christ Church in Germantown, and at the Swedenborgian Church. Mr. Gilchrist's harmonies are remarkably modern for the late nineteenth century.
