Potter, Long Live our Twelfth Night Queen
Edward Tuckerman Potter (1831-1904) was the son of Alonzo Potter, third Episcopal Bishop of Pennsylvania, and is best known as the architect of a number of historic buildings such as the Mark Twain House in Hartford, Connecticut; Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Davenport, Iowa, and Christ Church, Reading, Pennsylvania. He was also the composer of a large volume of music, mostly of a choral nature. Traditionally, at the Twelfth Night celebration the King and Queen of the Feast were chosen by being the ones whose slice of cake contained a bean.
