Osgood, Listen, Lordlings, unto me
George Laurie Osgood was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, in 1844, and studied under John Knowles Paine at Harvard, where he graduated in 1866. Following further study in Italy, he became Director of Music of the Boylston Club and the Singers’ Society of Boston, as well as Choirmaster of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Boston, where the surpliced choir he introduced was considered one of the best in the country. This is a setting of a traditional English carol. The chorus seems to have been written later by the Rev. Henry Ramsden Bramley (1833-1917).
