Wonderful night (Whittier)
Dr. Johann Friedrich von Meyer (1772-1849) was a senator of Frankfurt, who published a translation of the Bible in 1819. His text, "Wonderful night!" has a very Germanic feel, and was translated by the Rev. Milo Mahan, D.D. (1819-1870, an Episcopal priest prominent in the ritualist movement. The tune is by Charles Henry Whittier (1850-1929), assistant organist of Trinity Church, Copley Square, Boston, and later organist of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Boston and was also a Professor at the New England Conservatory of Music. He left numerous pieces of choral and organ music.
