Come, thou holy Infant, Jesus (Düring)
The Rev. Canon Pierre Pascal Harrower was born in Ellenville, New York, in 1849. He obtained an M.A. from Columbia University in 1874, and a B.D. from Drew Theological Seminary in 1877, following which he became a Methodist minister. He became an Episcopalian in 1882 and was then successively Rector of Grace Episcopal Church, Middletown, New York and of the Church of the Ascension, West New Brighton, Staten Island, New York. He was also a Canon of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. He seems to have been alive as late as 1935 when he officiated at a wedding in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The composer of the tune, Charles A. A. Düring, was born in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1854, and died in New York some time after 1920. He was a generous donor of music and other materials to several New York institutions, and also held patents for a waterproof cement for leather and an improved form of piano stool.
