Jesus, the Light of the world
Augmenting traditional texts such as Charles Wesley's "Hark! the herald angels sing" with choruses like this one, "Jesus, the Light of the world" was popular in revivalist circles in the late nineteenth century. This, perhaps the finest of its kind, was published in Geo. D. Elderkin, C. C. McCabe, Jno. R. Sweney, Wm. J. Kirkpatrick and F. A. Hardin (eds.), The Finest of Wheat, No. 2: Hymns New and Old for Missionary and Revival Meetings and Sabbath-Schools (Chicago, 1894). A recording of it performed by the Boston Camerata can be found here.
