Bremner Benedicite Untitled
This setting of the canticle, "Benedicite Omnia Opera", was published in Philadelphia by Benjamin Carr in 1821, and widely used in Episcopal Churches in the early nineteenth century. It came from A Collection of the Best Church-tunes, Canons and Anthems (Edinburgh, 1756), published by James Bremner (d. 1780). The brother of the former, Robert Bremner (d. 1789) was one of Carr's predecessors as organist of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Philadelphia, and so was probably responsible for introducing this setting of the "Benedicite" to America.
