Magdalen May Day Hymn
The "Hymnus Eucharisticus" is sung from the College Tower by the choristers of Magdalen College, Oxford at sunrise on May-day. The tune was written by Dr. Benjamin Rogers, who was organist of Magdalen College from 1664 to 1686.

Holman Hunt's famous painting, "May Morning on Magdalen Tower," was painted in 1889, although he had been thinking about it for some years and many of the characters came from earlier decades. Thus the clergyman (third from right, wearing scarlet Oxford D.D. gown) was Magdalen's Dean of Divinity from 1836 to 1863, the Rev. Dr. John Rouse Bloxham (1807-1891) and the Organist (fifth from right) was Sir John Stainer (1840-1901), who had been Organist at Magdalen from 1860 to 1872.
