This text by Mrs. Cecil Frances Alexander is set to a tune, "Alstone," by Christopher Edwin Willing (1830-1904). Willing was a chorister under James Turle at Westminster Abbey, and was later organist of the Foundling Hospital and later still of St. James, Marylebone.

St. James Church (Church of England) in Marylebone, where C. E. Willing was organist. The church built in 1879 was unusual in being a design by Sir Gilbert Scott in the Italianate rather than the Gothic style. The organ was a two-manual-and-pedal instrument built for the Queen's Concert Rooms in Hanover Square by T. C. Lewis in 1870, and moved to St. James, Marylebone in 1879 by Bishop & Son |
