John Speller's Web Pages - Hampshire Carols

The moon shines bright and the stars give light
This carol was collected by Dr. George B. Gardiner from Henry Blake of Bartley, Hants, in September 1908. The text exists in a number of versions and generally with a greater number of stanzas, set to a number of different tunes, and is found as both a New Year's carol and a May Day carol. There is nothing to indicate the season at which this Hampshire version was sung.
