Since in the days when Thomas Attwood was organist of St. Paul's Cathedral it was normal not to continue the Eucharist after Antecommunion, the propers were not sung. Attwood doubtless hankered after the Masses he would have experienced as a pupil of Mozart. He wrote this Sanctus to be sung by the Choir of St. Paul's as an Introit at the beginning of Antecommunion.
