Hail the blest morn when the great Mediator (Star in the East)
Bishop Heber first published his poem, "Brightest and best of the sons of the morning" in The Christian Observer for November 1811. His wife, Amelia Heber, republished it in Hymns Written and Adapted to the Weekly Service of the Church's Year in 1827. The first stanza seems to be of American composition and is first found in The Brick Church Hymns (New York, 1823). The tune is from Southern Harmony (1835), where it is attributed to R. Herron, about whom nothing further is known.
