Andreas Knöpken / Cnophius (1468-1539) was a Chaplain and later Archdeacon of Riga in Latvia, where he helped to bring about the Protestant Reformation. The tune is found in S. S. Wesley's European Psalmist and is set here to a text from John Morrison's Scottish Paraphrases, 1781.
