Down Came an Angel
This charming Easter carol is generally considered to be American in origin, and more specifically to have originated in Appalachia. It seems, however, that it was sung earlier than that in England, since Emily M. Lawson of Upton-on-Severn in Worcestershire attests to a version of it being sung there in the middle of the nineteenth century. She quotes the text in her novel, Rina Cliffe: A Village Character (London: SPCK, 1871), p. 28.
