Brown, Hail, glorious day Early American Horizontal
While I have been unable to find out anything about the author of the text, P. Cleaveland, A.B., who may, however, have been the pastor of the Meeting-House in Sterling, Bartholomew Brown was quite a well-known musician of the late eighteenth and ealy nineteenth centuries. He was born in Sterling, Massachusetts, in 1772 and graduated A.B. from Harvard University in 1799. He edited and composed considerable quantities of church music. This anthem is headed: "Anthem. Sung at the Dedication of Sterling Meeting-House, (Massachusetts) [January 1st., 1795]."
