In the early baroque period, when many composers were beginning to write masses in a more contrapuntal style, Dumont continued to prefer masses based on Gregorian tones, though written much more elaborately than had been customary in the past. The Credo from Domont's Messe Royale was reused without change by Franz Liszt in his Hungarian Coronation Mass.
