Bright was the guiding star that led
The title of this carol is found in the index of a manuscript of carols that formerly belonged to Joseph Willcox (b.1823), of Coombe Keynes, Dorset and dating from the 1830s or 1840s. The text by Harriet Auber (1773-1862) is taken from Spirit of the Psalms (1829). The most commonly used tune, "Arlington," was written by Dr. Arne.
