Welcome, merry Christmas
The text of this carol is first found in The Suffolk Literary Chronicle for 1838. The origin of the tune is comewhat obscure. The carol is found on a broadside in the Bodleian Library [Harding B.7 (10)] printed in Devonport for S. & J. Keys, 7 James Street, Devonport, and also sold by W. Burridge of Truro and J. Perrow of St. Austle [sic.]. This carol is particularly interesting for its concern for the poor, particular as it was written by a member of the aristocracy.
