Come all ye wandering pilgrims dear
How this American revival hymn came to be sung in mid-nineteenth-century Cornwall is something of a mystery. The text was written by John A. Granade (1770-1807), a Methodist circuit rider in Tennessee who was known locally as "The Wild Man of Goose Creek." The tune was recorded as being sung to this text by Joseph White ay Nancledra near Penzance in 1852 or 1853.
