The text of this carol was collected from Mr. Albert Washington, organist of the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in Truro. What is most curious about it is that the chorus is identical to another carol with the same title, "Carol, carol Chistians," by the American Episcopalian Bishop Arthur Cleveland Coxe (1818-1896), but the stanzas, though of the same metrical form, are entirely different. The tune is by Matthew Burrows, who was a cooper and Parish Clerk in Lanivet, Cornwall.
