Breaking up for the Christmas holidays
The Rev. S. Childs Clarke, M.A. (1821-1903) was sometime Vicar of St. Thomas-by-Launceston and Headmaster of Launceston Grammar School in Cornwall. He wrote this song to be sung by the boys of Launceston Grammar School at the end of the Michaelmas Term. It was originally set to a tune by the Rev. John Bacchus Dykes, Mus.Doc., which I have been unable to trace, so I have set it to an early American tune.
