Awake, arise, rejoice and sing
The title of this carol is found in the index of a manuscript of carols that formerly belonged to Joseph Willcox (b.1823), of Coombe Keynes, Dorset and dating from the 1830s or 1840s. The anonymous text was published in Penzance in 1870 by F. Rodda in A Selection of Carols, Pieces and Anthems, suitable for Christmas, published in Penzance in 1870 by F. Rodda. The Cornish tune is named "Hals(e)town, after a hamlet near St. Ives.
