John Speller's Web Pages - Christmas

O! the almighty Lord!
William Hone listed this anonymous poem as one of the most popular Christmas carols printed annually in the City of London. Several early sources list the tune as "Sutton," to which Isaac Watts's text is set here. The text was always intended to be a Christmas hymn, but I have to say the links with Christmas seem somewhat tenuous.
